Originally fire-polished glass beads owe their name to a very special polishing process for this kind of glass bead. The pre-faceted beads were placed on fireclay plates within a wood-fired polishing furnace. The fire would then gently polish the surface of the beads and eliminate any microscopic scratches.

Even though today the smooth surfaces of the beads are polished in electrically heated furnaces, these fire-polished glass beads are still symbolic of an extremely attractive synthesis of fire and glass. The Czech company Jablonex looks back on a long tradition of manufacturing fire-polished glass beads.

his is the only means of creating these shapely, colour-fast and, above all, fire-polished glass beads free of impurities. Like all the Jablonex glass beads, these beads have also been treated with a special surface seal against environmental influences and are therefore light and perfume-fast as well as hand-washable.
